Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve, generally accompanied by an increase in eye pressure from fluid buildup. In one type of glaucoma, acute closed angle glaucoma, the pressure increases very rapidly and it is very painful. It requires immediate surgery. The most common form of glaucoma, chronic open angle glaucoma, is insidious and is asymptomatic in its early stages. Treatment for glaucoma generally entails the use of special prescription eye drops, oral medication, surgery, or a combination of these depending upon the type of glaucoma, how advanced it is and several other factors. People most predisposed to glaucoma have a family history of it, are African-Americans or are over the age of sixty.

What about preventive measures and alternative treatment for Glaucoma?

The concise, layman's guide, Eye Care Naturally includes a chapter on glaucoma. It describes in non-technical language what glaucoma is and what steps you need to take to prevent glaucoma, slow down its progression, and in some cases, arrest it. The author, nutritional eye care specialist Dr. E. Michael Geiger, is an optometrist for many years with extensive experience in eye conditions and nutrition.

In the chapter on glaucoma in "Eye Care Naturally" Dr. Geiger details how to handle glaucoma and improve eye health through researched advice on eating properly, taking the correct nutritional supplements and adopting a suitable lifestyle. It is must reading for anyone predisposed to glaucoma, that is a glaucoma suspect or that currently has the disease. It is a MUST read!
