Calcium and your Health1

Calcium is a primary component of bone. Normal, healthy bones continually replenish lost calcium. Calcium is also good for supporting healthy nails, hair, blood vessels, muscles and the heart. The problem is that many people do not consume and supplement their diets with enough calcium to meet the recommended daily intake.

CalQlat contains enough calcium to support bone health and boost the potential for optimal bone health later in life2. Regular exercise and a healthy diet with enough calcium help teen and young adult Caucasian and Asian women maintain good bone health and may reduce their high risk of osteoporosis later in life.

Adequate calcium intake is important, but daily intakes above about 2,000 mg are not likely to provide any additional benefit. Osteoporosis is an ailment that affects 28 million Americans, 80% of whom are women, which results in an average of 1.5 million bone fractures per year in the United States and costs the nation approximately 13.8 billion dollars in hospital and related health care costs.

Bone structure is composed of hydroxyapatite, which is comprised of 7 major minerals in a very specific ratio. These minerals provide raw materials for bone structure, aid absorption of other minerals, and replace minerals that may have been lost.

It is extremely important to use a calcium supplement that has the proper ratio of calcium to phosphorus (1.8 calcium: 1 phosphorus) as well as providing the other minerals essential to bone health such as magnesium, potassium and zinc. Magnesium, zinc and other trace minerals are difficult to obtain in a normal diet, and are essential in fully maintaining bone mass. The balance and ratio of the minerals is extremely important. An improper ratio of minerals in the body (i.e. too much phosphorus can cause calcium deposits to accumulate in soft tissue, yet too little can lead to calcium-poor bones. If the ratio of calcium to magnesium becomes non-biologic (more or less than that which is in the normal human system) it may result in decreased absorption of both minerals.

Prohydroxyapatite, the source of the calcium and other major minerals in CalQlat, has the necessary ratio of essential minerals found in human bone. Having this balance of minerals is more powerful than just having calcium alone. Proper mineral concentrations work synergistically to fortify and maintain bone mineral density2.

Calcium carbonate is one of the most commonly used forms of calcium and is at best only 5% bioavailable. If one needs 1000mg a day of calcium, and the average-sized tablet contains 500mg of calcium carbonate, they would need to take 40 tablets per day. This could be expensive, would be impossible to take, and may be unhealthy. Too much calcium carbonate could result in constipation and may contain unhealthy levels of lead in the tablets.

It is very important to know that there is no lead contamination in your calcium supplement. A relatively new study from JAMA magazine claims that there is still a problem with lead contamination in dietary calcium supplements. Many at risk for osteoporosis are directed to use 1500mg of calcium per day. In fact, from this study, there is 1.77mg of lead per 1500mg of calcium in the best selling calcium product on the market. This amount of lead could accumulate to toxic levels over years of sustained usage. CalQlat is a lead-free calcium and bone-mineral supplement.

Osteo Solutions is formulated for men and women concerned with maintaining a healthy skeletal structure. It combines calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and iron.

Because your bones are made of living tissue they are in a state of constant change. The body absorbs old bone tissue and replaces it with new fresh tissue on a continuous basis.

When one reaches the late twenties to mid-thirties one's skeletal structure will reach its maximum mass, after which the bones typically begin losing mass. This is a natural process that accompanies aging. If, however, one does not get enough calcium, the body will begin to lose more bone tissue than can be replaced.
